A lack of urgency is a lack of desire to be great. A lack of urgency is an entitlement adopted by losers.
Through five weeks, the 2025 Philadelphia Eagles are an entitled group lacking urgency.
How do I know? I have eyes. That’s how I know. The Eagles believed they were good enough to show up against the Broncos, go through the motions, and win, just as they did against the Cowboys and Buccaneers. For three quarters they may have been right, but Denver signed up for 60 minutes and punched the Eagles right in the face. The façade of simply showing up and winning has been broken. Hopefully the entitlement will die with it.
The best reigning Super Bowl champions don’t take the next season for granted. The Eagles said all the right things last February and throughout the offseason, but their urgency and effort on the field does not reflect the force of their words. The Eagles are sloppy. They take stupid penalties. Their execution is off. Their effort clearly and obviously lacks at times. They play like a team that thinks wins will simply come to them.
A season ago, the Eagles would have put the Broncos into the ground with a punishing, time-consuming and game-sealing drive after establishing a 14-point 4th quarter lead. Instead, the Eagles produced only one 1st down on the four drives after taking a 17-3 lead. Guess how many times they ran the football on those four drives… twice. Guess how many sacks Jalen Hurts took on those four drives… two. Guess how many penalties the Eagles committed on those four drives… four.
This is not a team serious about repeating as Super Bowl Champions. They are an entitled, lazy group of football players. AJ Brown runs his mouth more than his legs. The offensive line cannot generate a downfield push. Jalen Hurts always talks about staying in the fight but lacks the courage to throw any ball that could remotely be intercepted. Trust your receivers to make a play. You don’t always have to overthrow them by seven feet. The defense can’t rush the passer. The offense is as predictable and vanilla as any in the league. Watch any other NFL game and you’ll see offenses attack the opposing defense. Not the Eagles. Braden Mann is their weapon of choice.
Did the Eagles make some minor adjustments this week? Sure. They stopped running draws on 3rd and long and actually utilized their talent at receiver. They also ran outside the tackles… once… for 17 yards… and then never did it the rest of the game. Again, this team, this coaching staff… they are not serious about defending their title. Let’s hope the embarrassment of a 4th quarter collapse at home grabs their attention.
